Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo won the BWF Male Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year, while China’s Huang Yaqiong won the BWF Female Player of the Year at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2018 Gala Dinner last evening.
The ‘Minions’ from Indonesia won the award ahead of two other nominees – Zheng Siwei (China) and Kento Momota (Japan). Huang Yaqiong warded off competition from Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei) and Japan’s Women’s Doubles duo Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota.
“It's a great honour to win this award for the second straight time. It's an inspiration for us to keep working hard. We did well all through the season but I would say our highlight was winning the Asian Games gold,” Sukamuljo said.
