Phetpradab defeated fifth seed Srikanth Kidambi of India in the men's singles 11-21 21-16 21-12, but it was Chochuwong’s 21-15 21-19 win over Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun that brought on deafening cheers.
“I lost to her in Japan so I went into this match without any pressure on myself. Maybe I made some mistakes but I was able to take control,” said the 21-year-old Chochuwong, who will join teammate Ratchanok Intanon in the women’s singles quarterfinals on Friday.
Other local favourites through to the quarterfinals are women’s mixed doubles Sapsiree Taerattanachai/Dechapol Puavaranukroh.
