Fourth seeds Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto stopped returning pair Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in their tracks, overcoming the Olympic champions in straight games to enter the semifinals of the VICTOR SUWON Korea Open 2025.
Interestingly, their only previous clash – a three-game epic – had come four years ago, at the Uber Cup in 2021. There was a lot of interest in Chen and Jia's form, considering they had recombined after extended stints with other partners. Against their Japanese fellow veterans, however, the Chinese duo couldn’t recapture their best form as they went down 21-19 21-13.
For the Japanese, it marks a turnaround in form as their last semifinal was at the All England in March.
