The pair that topped the HSBC Race to Finals rankings was Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, who were playing their first full season as a pair, having come together last October. The Thais started the year on a perfect note, winning the Malaysia Open (Super 1000) and kept their form all through the season.
The most striking result of the year was of course Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei winning the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025 gold – the biggest prize of their career – which pitchforked them as world-beaters, for they had previously stalled on the doorsteps of the major titles.
Given that the two Chinese pairs – Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping and Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin – had a prolific year as well, mixed doubles at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2025 is expected to be a four-way battle between the above pairs, but the other contenders could spring a surprise as well.
