No fewer than five players aged 21 or below booked their places in the finals, capping an impressive day of performances at Istora Senayan on Saturday.
Setting the tone was Pitchamon Opatniputh, who became the youngest Super 500 finalist at just 19 years and 21 days. The Thai prodigy brushed aside fellow surprise semifinalist Letshanaa Karupathevan 21-15 21-17 in an early match.
She was soon joined by compatriot Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, the 21-year-old continuing his giantkilling run by eliminating sixth seed Loh Kean Yew 21-17 21-17, a day after showing seventh seed Lakshya Sen the exit.
