The world No.25 Indonesians, reunited in May after a two-year separation, showed impressive composure to close out a tense opener. Trailing 19-16, they reeled off the final five points to snatch the game. They then recovered from a three-point deficit in the second, drawing level at 15-15 before keeping their noses in front all the way to the finish.
It was Carnando and Marthin’s first meeting with the world No.1 Koreans. Since reuniting, the Indonesians have already claimed two titles – the Thailand and Taipei Opens.
“This win against the world No.1s definitely sets a good precedent for future matches and boosts our confidence,” said Carnando. “Of course, we must remain focused because there are many more matches to come.”
