“Fantastic feeling winning against the world No.1 on home soil in front of these spectators. The atmosphere was amazing and I'm just really happy and proud,” Gemke said.
Gemke admitted initially struggling to find his rhythm and produce the quality needed to challenge the Thai star. Despite that, the world No.27 refused to give up.
“Somehow I managed to fight my way back into the match and suddenly it started to work for me. He made some errors and I was back in,” said the 29-year-old. “Of course, it's a big confidence boost after a win like that. Really looking forward to the second round.”
